Dear Humboldtians,

On behalf of the Regional Group Munich of the Deutsche Gesellschaft der Humboldtianer we cordially invite you to the next Humboldt Salon on September 20, 2018.

It is organized as a guided tour (in English) in the Haus der Kunst through the exhibition “Disjunctures” from Vivan Sundaram, followed by a get-together in the Internationales Begegnungszentrum München IBZ.

VIVAN SUNDARAM’s “DISJUNCTURES” deals about politics and poetics, ethics and aesthetics: the continual crossing of these dimensions defines the forcefield in which the multimedia oeuvre of Vivan Sundaram (born 1943 in Simla, India) has taken shape over the last 50 years. His artistic beginnings coincide with an emblematic date in the second half of the twentieth century: 1968, synonymous with the international protest movements of students, workers and civil rights activists.

Sundaram describes himself as a political artist and as a critical witness to his times. It is the mediation of the plastic language deployed by him that makes his political stance indissociable from a poetics of making.

The presentation at Haus der Kunst is the most comprehensive and wideranging survey of Sundaram’s work at a European institution.

The tour will take place September 20, 2018. It starts at 18:00 (sharp!) at the counter of the museum and ends about 19:00, and will be followed by a get-together in the Internationales Begegnungszentrum IBZ.

The guided tour will be financially sponsored by the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation. The entrance fee of the museum (8 Euro) has to be paid individually.

Venue: Tour: Haus der Kunst, Prinzregentenstraße, 80538 München; Get-together: Internationales Begegnungszentrum München (IBZ), Amalienstr. 38, 80799 München
Date: September 20, 2018, 18:00 sharp (or approx. 20:00 in the IBZ for those who cannot join the tour)

As during the last meetings, snacks and beverages will be available in the IBZ, kindly sponsored by the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation. In order to facilitate preparations, we would like to ask you to confirm participation and indicate the number of persons attending the guided tour and/or the Salon, by September 18, 2018, to Mr Kruhl.

With kind regards,
Jörn H. Kruhl and Lutz Cleemann
(Humboldt Club Munich)
